Cyril Gane Says He is Ready to Fight Former Teammate Francis Ngannou
- Cyril Gane says he is now comfortable with fighting former teammate Francis Ngannou for the UFC heavyweight title.
- Gane defeated Alexander Volkov on Saturday night in the main event of UFC Vegas 30.
- Ngannou has opened as a -190 betting favorite over Gane who was pegged at +165 when the lines first opened at online sportsbook BetOnline.
With his victory over Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Vegas 30 on Saturday night, Cyril Gane became just the 5th heavyweight to start his UFC career with six straight wins.
The first four to accomplish the feat – Randy Couture, Cain Velasquez, Juniors Dos Santos, and Francis Ngannou, went on to become UFC heavyweight champion and Gane may be headed in the same direction.
However, if Gane were to accomplish that feat in the near future, he may have to go through a fighter whom he used to go to the same gym with – Francis Ngannou.
Gane Now Comfortable With the Situation
“Now, I’m comfortable with the situation, because he [has] the belt.”
On the #UFCVegas30 post-show, @ciryl_gane revealed he would not have fought Francis Ngannou without a title on the line, due to Ngannou’s ties to MMA Factory, where Gane trains. pic.twitter.com/XxsFTAe2yC

Both Gane and Ngannou trained under the tutelage of head coach Fernand Lopez at the MMA Factory in Paris. But Gane revealed that he is not close to Ngannou because when he arrived at MMA Factory, Ngannou was already living in Las Vegas. He only spent time with the current UFC heavyweight champion when the latter would come back to Paris to train for a fight.
Most notably, Gane sparred with Ngannou when the latter returned to Paris to train for his 2017 bout against Alistair Overeem. According to Gane, sparring with Ngannou was great test for him. Of course he said he was impressed with Ngannou’s punching power.
Last December, Gane was asked about the possibility of fighting his teammate and he said that the only Ngannou fight he would take is one for the belt. At that time, Ngannou was still preparing for his rematch with Stipe Miocic, but now that The Predator has the belt, Bon Gamin says he is comfortable with fighting his former teammate and sparring partner.

Francis Ngannou -190
Cyril Gane +165

With Gane’s post-fight statement, online sportsbook BetOnline has opened its betting lines for what may be an inevitable match between the former teammates. According to the BetOnline App, the champion is a -190 betting favorite to beat the 3rd ranked Gane who opened as a slight +165 underdog.
Sure, Ngannou still has a date with the no. 2 ranked Derrick Lewis, likely in September and Lewis owns a win over Ngannou. But unless the Predator falls prey to one of Lewis’ signature walk-off knockouts, the best UFC betting sites have Ngannou as a heavy betting favorite to retain his belt against the Black Beast.
A trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic may still be in the horizon but right now, there isn’t too much clamor for that bout after how Ngannou annihilated Miocic at UFC 260. There may however be an interest in a fight between two former teammates who likely know each other’s tendencies, if not weaknesses. And yes, Gane has already gained the right to fight for UFC gold.
