NCAA Baskteball Odds: St. John's Red Storm at Detroit Titans
Monday, December 05, 2011
Frank Martin
With its recent run against non-conference ranked opponents coming to an end, St Johns Red Storm hopes to get back on track against Detroit Titans on Monday. The Red Storm lost 81-59 at No. 1 Kentucky last Thursday.
But the bigger story was the continued absence of coach Steve Lavin, who is recovering from prostate cancer surgery and has vowed not to return until he regains the necessary stamina, making him unlikely to coach this game.
Detroit fought back from a 14-point deficit with just over eight minutes remaining, but ultimately fell short against Horizon Conference rival Cleveland State on Saturday, 66-61.

The Red Storm have opened as 1-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.
St. John's Red Storm (4-4): Assistant Mike Dunlap, who won two NCAA titles with Division II Metro State, has filled in for Lavin and gone 2-2 in his place. Freshman guard Moe Harkless has carried the Red Storm so far, leading the team in points (14.4 per game), rebounds (7.1), blocks and steals. St. John’s is shooting 39.4 percent in its four losses and 50.2 percent in its four victories.
Detroit Titans (3-6): The Titans converted 20 of 22 free throws on Saturday, but shot just 1 of 13 from the 3-point line. Detroit has limited its opponents to 41.3 percent shooting in five home games, a striking contrast from the 48 percent it has allowed in four games on the road. Junior guard Brandon Romain was in uniform Saturday for the first time after his transfer eligibility requirements had been confirmed. He averaged 22 points as a sophomore at Westchester Community College.
1. The all-time series is tied 1-1, with Detroit winning the last meeting during the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
2. The Titans will rename their basketball court Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall in honor of their former head coach.
3. The Red Storm have the youngest roster in college basketball.
